Breezeway Designs for Houses

Breezeways are narrow , long corridor-like spaces that join two rooms, mostly used to join the external car garage to the main house.

Some breezeways are completely enclosed with windows and walls while others are open on the sides, with only a roof above to shelter from the elements of weather.

Some breezeways are architecturally designed to have several functions such as being the entry porch, outside lounge area and at the same time connecting the garage to the main house.

Columns.

Use of columns to demarcate the breezeway space is a very common method of design, whereby the space in between the 2 column forms and enclosure which offers partial privacy. Hanging plants and potted plants kept along the edges is a simple method of beautifying the breezeway.

Rustic floor finishes such as Mazeras stone tiles are a good method to finish a breezeway since its a space that is partially outside and partially inside, hence a blend between the clean sleek internal finishes such as ceramic tiles verses the rustic exterior landscape finishes such as cobble stone or Mazeras stone tiles.

Breezeways can be architecturally designed to allow visibility through them from one side to the other, especially if well manicured landscape design has been done on both sides of the breezeway.

A metal grill designed to a pattern can offer security in case the breezeway needs to be well secured in case of burglars .

Glass panels can be used to keep the spaces in the breezeway away from rain and wind, while at the same time allowing for through visibility for the landscaped gardens on both sides of the breezeway to be seen. This gives an inside-outside feel while inside the house, whereby house occupiers can get a feel of nature while still inside the house.
